The Unending Ending and the Symptoms of the Current Novel

  • In recent years, the difficulty of novel endings has been raised as a problem that cannot be ignored. It is related to the dismantling of endings in the avant-garde novels at the turn of 1980s and 1990s,but more closely related to the current era of “brisk modernity”.To some extent, the diversity of choices, the lack of sense of direction and the inability to solve contradictions are the main reasons that puzzle the endings of current novels. For many writers, the problem of how to make their heroes stay at a point in life that means both an end and a beginning is not only a problem of novel creation, but also a problem of realistic choice.Under the “accelerated” development of society, the interpretation and re-theorization of reality may be an effective way to solve this problem.
