New Culture Movement and the Opening of Sinicization of Marxist Philosophy

  • From the perspective of origin, the Sinicization of Marxist Philosophy was developed from New Culture Movement, in which it has gone through three links at the ideological level, taking the victory of the October Revolution and the May 4th movement as an opportunity. The first link was from advocating “science” and “democracy” to spreading the socialist view of the October Revolution, in which early Chinese Marxists closely combined the spread of the socialist concept of the October Revolution with the thinking of the Chinese road to create the ideological starting point of the Sinicization of Marxist philosophy. The second link was from spreading Marx’s theory to research on the materialist concept of history, in which Li Dazhao, basing on Marx’s socialist economics, expounded Marx’s materialist concept of history and constructed the methodology of studying the problem of Chinses revolution. The third link was from researching the issues of the Chinses revolution to put forward the party concept of the Communist Party of China, in which Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu based on the platform of world economic and political changes and linked the socialist movement around the world to research on the Chinses revolution and put forward the party concept of the Communist Party of China. It was on the three links that New Culture Movement condensed the inner spirit of the Chinese road and made ideological preparations for constructing the theory of Sinicization of Marxist philosophy and developing Chinese revolutionary practice.
