The Philosophy of History of “New Idealism” after Hegel: Neo-Hegelianism

Abstract

The name "philosophy of history" comes from Voltaire, but it actually began with "Kant and post-Kantian idealism". In this context, particular emphasis is placed on "Kant", but in fact, the phrase "the philosophy of history in Kant and post-Kantian idealism " also implicitly includes the figures of Herder, Hegel, Schelling, and even Fichte. According to H. Rickert:"Kant himself did not create a systematic critical philosophy of history. But on the basis of his thought, related systems grew one after another", especially the systematic form of the philosophy of history. The mature ideas and systematic form of the philosophy of history gradually took shape through the appeals to "return to Kant" and "return to Hegel", under the title of "critique of historical reason", and in the development of "new idealism" (a collective term for neo-Kantianism and neo-Hegelianism). It has continued into contemporary philosophy, leaving its distinct mark within it.
